SPARC 22LR Round Two The Tikorangi Twenty Two.
Round two got underway on a cold windy day (to be expected in August) but most importantly with no rain. As with the previous round we had a sold out event with just a couple of no shows on the day due to sickness or other last minute changes in personal situation. The course of fire was quite different from round one at PioPio with less barricades, more brush obscuring targets and significantly more unsupported positional shooting mixed in to test out shooters.
The wind was a reasonably constant Northeast all day keeping competitors on their toes with some targets being sheltered from the wind and others being more exposed. This was a stark contrast to round one in PioPio where we had essentially no wind all day. Six out of the eight stages included unsupported shooting in some way or another, be it the whole stage or just a couple shots at a close target from unsupported standing to test those with very heavy setups.
One new stage we ran at this event was a blind stage. The competitors could not preview the shoot position and did not know how many targets they were looking for or the distances they were located. The only information given was that each target is to be hit twice…oh, and the targets were painted grey.
This new stage seemed popular and truly tested the practical aspect of the S.P.A.R.C series, going forward to round three and the series final it is highly likely this style of stage will be repeated at these events.
Thank you to GPRE and the TLRS team for helping organise and execute this event. It was another very successful practical shooting match and had a good number of new competitors come along for their first try at this style of shooting. Last but not least, thank you to my lovely wife for putting on a very well received meal of hot soup and several sweet treats at the end of the day that helped warm up competitors before they made their way home.
Round Three, Speed Vs Precision is taking place in Tarata on the 27th of November and is a GPRE ran match so check them out on Facebook for more information.
